Editor's Note:: Structure was not included in Roudabush Survey or Schmidt books. Name and address information in the title provided by hand written note in Roudabush Survey document, source unknown. Assuming that the address is correct, Google Maps shows a new residence structure at this address, suggesting that the cobblestone structure was demolished. Following is that which is known to us to-date, beginning April 25, 2026.
I do recall this building because I when I heard it was going to be demolished I went to photograph it but by the time I got there it had already been mostly demolished. I was bummed because I had passed it so many times on my way to visit my father-in-law who lived in the Carriage Glen Apartments directly across the street from it. A new house now stands in its place. The structure may have been a secondary building, not a house or at least not at that time. I don't recall exactly when it was demolished. I'll have to check my files to see if I can find a photo and if it was before or after I switched from film to digital - it most likely was before 2010. Gina DiBella email 4/25/2026.
Back in 2011 I tried to track this one down. I drove by this location and the site was uncared for and there was no cobblestone structure on it. I tried tracing through old maps, names of earlier owners—but no luck. I noted in my files:

Although not on Roudabush's list, a hand-written note is scribbled in the margin at the Landmark Society: "4 - North Wing, 928-930 Long Pond (possibly smokehouse, now attached to house)". On 27APR2011 this structure was gone and it was a completely vacant lot. Not documented by Carl F. Schmidt.This is Dorothy Wells Pease's 8th entry on pg 2. This does show on DWP's accompanying map as a half circle; so it's probably an authentic siting. She did this inventory in the early '40s and her work is exceedingly reliable. If she calls it a "milk house" and denotes a half-circle, I would take her at her word. I also note that because the 1872 map doesn't show a structure, my guess is that the "milk house" that DWP saw had long been an orphaned remnant on the site.

Consulting early Monroe County maps provides:
1852 - John Putnam residence in the general area on the east side of Long Pond Road.
1858 - J L Putnam same as 1852 map.
1872 - internet link to Beers Atlas which listed residents in Town of Greece, a G Herman included, but no map provided with this document.
1887 - Putnam structure not shown; however, F Herman residence located just south of the Putnam location. Are the residences the same despite map difference?
1902 Town of Greece map - Fred Herman 60 acres.
1924 Town of Greece map - Jos Combs. A Frank Herman owned land adjacent to the south.

The 2026 Town of Greece property information for the residence at 932 Long Pond Rd. documents the year built as 1835. Since that date precedes the maps it is assumed that this structure is associated with the Putnam name above. Even though the accuracy of the early maps may be questionable, the lack of other structures on the east side of Long Pond Road in that area, and if the 1835 year built date for the existing residence is correct, then the cobblestone structure would likely have been built as an outbuilding during the traditional cobblestone construction period (1825-1868) just north of and adjacent to the 1835 structure at the 932 Long Pond Road address. Thanks to Cynthia Howk for her discovery of two photographs of the duplex frame structure appended to the cobblestone structure which affirmed that conjecture. There are several instances in the Cobblestone Info Base where a small cobblestone structure with a standalone, specific use was appended to a later built frame structure. As yet, there is no known documentation that states how the cobblestone structure became attached to the frame structure.
Below in the Photographs section are two Goolgle Earth Pro satellite views where the 928-930 Long Pond Rd. duplex was visible in April 2002 but by April of 2005 was gone. As cobblestone sites were rare in the town, I wanted to document this unusual example, even thought I don't think the actual house at that address was included in the 101 sites selected for inclusion in the survey. I was so surprised - and thrilled - to discover these three photos in the Landmark Society digital database. The original 1994 photos were slides, later digitized to add the images to the database. The original slides are in the filing cabinets in the Archives Room at Warner Castle: part of the 60,000+ slides that comprise that collection."
